Joburg Water Update | 26 January 2026

Johannesburg residents in several regions are set to experience water supply interruptions this week due to a combination of planned infrastructure upgrades and unplanned reservoir capacity challenges, Johannesburg Water has confirmed.

In its Daily Water Supply System Status Update issued on Monday morning, the utility outlined scheduled maintenance work in selected areas of Regions A and C, alongside extended unplanned interruptions affecting parts of Region G in the city’s Deep South.

Planned Maintenance: Regions A and C

Residents in Wilfordon (Region C) will have no water supply on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, from 08:00 to 16:00. Johannesburg Water says the interruption is necessary to allow for the tie-in of a new pipe to existing infrastructure. All streets in the area will be affected, and no alternative water supply will be provided as the reservoir will be placed on bypass during the work.

In Ivory Park Extension 12 (Region A), water supply will also be interrupted on 3 February 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00, due to the relocation of existing water infrastructure. Streets affected include Thyolo, Tjale, Makhura, Kwinika, Makalla, Msiza, Ngomane, Jambala, Chauke, Khoza, Bhalatsi, Seemola, Maphanga, and Khumalo Street.

Johannesburg Water has indicated that alternative water supply points will be available at Ebomini Primary School Entrance, Tjale Street, and the corner of Tjale and Thyolo Street.

The utility says the planned maintenance forms part of broader efforts to improve service delivery and ensure continuity of water supply in the long term.

Unplanned Interruptions: Region G

Meanwhile, parts of Region G will continue to experience intermittent water supply disruptions due to low water levels at the Orange Farm Reservoir.

According to Johannesburg Water, high demand in the system has necessitated the isolation of the reservoir every evening at 20:00, with reopening at 05:00 the following morning. These measures are intended to allow the reservoir to recover and build capacity.

However, due to ongoing pressure on the system, the utility has implemented an extended isolation period from 20:00 on Monday, 26 January 2026, until 05:00 on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, or earlier should water levels reach the targeted 10 metres.

Areas affected include Orange Farm, Drieziek, Lakeside, and Stretford, with all streets impacted. Johannesburg Water has confirmed that alternative water supply will be provided during this period.

Call for Water Conservation

Johannesburg Water has urged residents across the city to continue using water sparingly, warning that high demand places strain on reservoirs and distribution systems.

Customers experiencing water-related faults can log calls via 011 688 1699, 086 056 2874, SMS 45201, email Fault@Jwater.co.za, or through the utility’s official social media platforms.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official updates as the situation develops.
