Johannesburg, 16 January 2026 – Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero faces another political challenge as a second motion of no confidence has been proposed against him.
The motion was brought forward by the Al Jama-ah party and has been seconded by the United Democratic Movement (UDM). This marks the latest attempt to unseat Morero amid ongoing political tensions in the City of Johannesburg.
Morero previously survived a similar motion two months ago, which was tabled by a coalition of minority parties. Four months before that, he also survived another attempt to remove him from office. These repeated challenges have placed both his leadership and the stability of the ANC-led city government under intense scrutiny.
The development comes as political observers continue to watch the dynamics within Johannesburg’s city council, with minority parties increasingly vocal in their criticism of Morero’s administration.
The mayor has yet to comment publicly on the latest motion. The council will decide on the proposal in the coming days.
