Several areas in the Johannesburg CBD and surrounding suburbs have been left without water following a major burst pipe at the intersection of Commissioner and Mooi streets.
Johannesburg Water confirmed that the interruption is due to an unplanned infrastructure failure affecting a 400mm main water feed. The utility said the water supply has been isolated to allow emergency repair work to take place.
The outage, which was reported at approximately 12:10 on Sunday, is impacting the following areas:
- Marshalltown
- Newtown
- Johannesburg CBD
- Ferreira’s Drop
Residents and businesses in these areas are expected to remain without water for the duration of the repairs.
Johannesburg Water has not provided an estimated time for the restoration of supply, stating that updates will be communicated as work progresses.
The utility has urged affected customers to exercise patience while teams attend to the burst pipe and work to restore services safely.
This latest disruption adds to ongoing concerns about ageing water infrastructure in the inner city, particularly during peak holiday periods when emergency response times can be strained.
Further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
