Johannesburg — Several major roads in and around Johannesburg will be temporarily closed this coming weekend as law enforcement agencies ramp up security operations ahead of next week’s G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The coordinated operation will take place on Saturday, 15 November 2025, between 09:00 and 13:00, and motorists are advised to prepare for intermittent traffic disruptions across key parts of the city.
According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the exercise is part of intensified traffic and security measures in preparation for the global gathering, which will bring together world leaders, international delegations, and heavy motorcade movements in Gauteng.

The RTMC said the measures are vital for public safety, traffic compliance, and managing congestion as the city readies itself for the high-level international event.
“Clear signage, visible officers, and real-time traffic updates will be in place to assist motorists throughout the operation,” the corporation assured. Emergency and essential services will have priority access at all times.
While the G20 Summit is scheduled for next weekend, the upcoming Saturday’s operation serves as a security rehearsal to test readiness and coordination across law enforcement agencies, including the Gauteng Traffic Police, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Motorists are urged to stay alert and follow official traffic updates from RTMC and JMPD channels.
