Jimmy Dludlu will be one of the performers at the festival.
Music lovers in Johannesburg can look forward to an evening of live jazz, culture and outdoor entertainment as the Jazz in the Lights returns to the Johannesburg Zoo on 21 March.
The popular annual festival will once again transform the zoo’s scenic lawns into a vibrant live-music venue, bringing together established jazz musicians and emerging talent from across South Africa.
Strong Local Line-Up
This year’s programme features a mix of celebrated performers and rising stars, including guitarist Jimmy Dludlu, vocalists Dumza Maswana and Brenda Mtambo, as well as acclaimed pianist Andile Yenana.
Other performers set to take the stage include Afrika Mkhize, trombonist Malcolm Jiyane, saxophonist Xhanti Nokwali, singer Rorisang Sechele and award-winning songwriter Msaki.
International Guest Performance
Adding an international touch to the festival is Portuguese jazz vocalist Maria João, whose appearance forms part of a cultural collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy in South Africa and the city’s Arts Alive Festival initiative.
Music, Food and Picnic Vibes
Known for its relaxed picnic atmosphere, Jazz in the Lights allows visitors to enjoy live music while spending time outdoors with friends and family. Festival-goers typically bring picnic blankets and baskets, while food vendors and refreshments are also available on site.
Organisers say a new VIP hospitality experience will be introduced this year, offering guests premium dining options, beverages and exclusive viewing areas close to the stage.
Tourism and Cultural Support
The event is supported by several partners, including the Johannesburg Tourism Company, radio station Kaya FM 95.9, and Joburg City Theatres.
With its blend of live jazz, nature and family-friendly entertainment, organisers say the festival continues to celebrate Johannesburg’s diverse music culture while creating a unique outdoor experience in the heart of the city.
