JOHANNESBURG — Major traffic disruptions are expected in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, as March and March leads a large-scale demonstration through the inner city.
A public advisory issued by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says more than 500 marchers are expected to participate in the procession, which is scheduled to run from 09:00 to 15:00.
March and March has positioned the demonstration around concerns over crimes it alleges are linked to foreign nationals and unauthorised religious leaders.
Protesters are expected to assemble at 09:00 at the corner of Prospect Road and Tudhope Avenue in Berea before proceeding along Nugget Street, turning into Rahima Moosa (Jeppe) Street, and continuing to Loveday Street.
The march will end at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, where a memorandum is scheduled to be handed over at 12:30.
JMPD has warned motorists to expect significant delays along Jeppe Street, Loveday Street, and surrounding roads near the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for most of the day.
Law enforcement officers will be deployed along the route to oversee public safety and traffic management.
Commuters and residents are advised to avoid affected routes where possible and prepare for congestion in the Johannesburg CBD during the demonstration.
