African Pride Games Celebrate Inclusion and Sporting Excellence in Johannesburg

The City of Johannesburg has once again placed itself at the heart of inclusive sport, proudly supporting the 2025 African Pride Games (APG) — a month-long celebration of sporting excellence, diversity, and equality.

Hosted by the Phuti Lekoloane Foundation and backed by the City’s Community Development Department, the Games ran from 4 October to 2 November 2025, concluding in style at Rabie Ridge Stadium, Midrand.

🏳️‍🌈 A Platform “Beyond Proud”

Launched in 2020, the African Pride Games have grown into Africa’s leading LGBTI+ inclusive multi-sport event, creating a safe and visible platform for athletes of all identities to express their talent and unity through sport.

This year’s theme, “Beyond Proud”, focused on empowerment and resilience, highlighting how sport continues to bridge divides and champion equality across communities.

“Over five weeks, hundreds of athletes and supporters gathered to celebrate sport as a tool for social change. Each weekend was filled with competition, culture, and community spirit,” said Cllr Tebogo Nkokou, MMC for Community Development.

Cllr Nkokou also thanked all partners and supporters “who continue to stand for inclusion and equality in sport.”
