Johannesburg Water Denies Claims of Sandton Water Throttling, Calls Rumours “Misleading”

Johannesburg Water has strongly denied circulating claims alleging that water supply to Sandton is being throttled or reduced, calling the reports “incorrect and misleading.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the City-owned utility said there are no restrictions, pressure reductions, or supply interruptions currently taking place within the Sandton water system.

“The Entity confirms that there is no throttling, restriction, or reduced supply occurring within the Sandton system,” the statement reads. It further clarifies that no maintenance work is underway in the area that could affect water flow.

This comes amid growing concerns from residents and social media chatter suggesting that parts of Sandton were experiencing cuts linked to water-saving measures or system failures.

Johannesburg Water urged the public to rely on official channels for updates and avoid sharing unverified information.

“Johannesburg Water urges residents to rely on our official communication channels for accurate and verified information — and to refrain from sharing unconfirmed statements that may create unnecessary concern or confusion.”

The Sandton system, the utility insists, is functioning normally.
