City of Joburg Open 37 swimming pools for Festive Season — Here's the Full List and Regional Breakdown

The City of Johannesburg has opened 37 municipal swimming pools for the 2025/26 festive season, giving residents across all seven regions access to much-needed recreational spaces during the summer holidays. A further seven pools are expected to open before March 2026, while 12 remain non-operational and four are completed but not yet open.

The city says annual challenges such as water shortages, low pressure, aging infrastructure, vandalism, and environmental damage from flooding continue to hinder operations. This year’s maintenance and operational budget for pools stands at R9.1 million.

Last season, the city recorded 411,345 visitors, down from 423,729 in 2023/24.

Some facilities — including Ellis Park, Newclare, Pimville, Pioneer Park, Linden and Coronationville — remain popular due to their Olympic-size layouts or heated pools.
