Eight-Hour Power Outages Scheduled Across Joburg This Week

City Power has announced a series of planned eight-hour power outages across several Johannesburg areas this week as part of essential maintenance on its electricity network.

The outages will run from 8 to 12 December 2025, with each interruption expected to last approximately eight hours per day. Residents are advised to make arrangements for the outages and to treat all electricity supply points as live, even during scheduled interruptions.


Monday, 8 December – Randburg (Region B)

Areas served by the Houtkoppen Substation will experience power cuts from 8am to 4pm. Affected suburbs include:

Kya Sand
Jukskei Park
Chartwell
Olivedale
Hoogland
Witkoppen
Fourways
Johannesburg-North
Kya Sand Ext. 6, 11, 37
Needwood Ext. 4 & 5
Jukskei Park Ext. 1, 3, 5, 6
Noordhang Ext. 3, 7, 29, 45
Northriding Ext. 72, 78, 79
Northwold Ext. 2, 15, 23, 28, 59, 65
Bloubosrand Ext. 2, 3, 9, 11, 12


Tuesday, 9 December – Randburg

The following areas will be affected from 9am to 5pm:

Wednesday, 10 December – Lenasia & Randburg

Two substations will undergo maintenance simultaneously:

Lenasia (Region G) – Nirvana Substation:

Lenasia Extensions 1–13 (excluding 12)

Time: 8am–4pm

Randburg (Region B) – Khanyisa Substation:
Bryanston Extension 40
Bryanston
Lyme Park
Hurlingham Ext. 5
Time: 8am–4pm

Randburg Substation – Region B:
Blairgowrie
Ferndale
Time: 9am–5pm


Friday, 12 December – Roodepoort (Region C)

Multiple areas supplied by the Peter Road Substation will experience outages from 8am to 4pm, including:

Honey Park

Laser Park
Tres Jolie
Strubensvallei
Wilgeheuwel
Little Falls
Willowbrook
Poortview

Ruimsig and extensions


City Power Advisory

City Power emphasized that the outages are part of its ongoing network maintenance programme, aimed at improving service reliability. The utility reminded residents to treat all electricity points as active, as supply may be restored at any time.

“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” City Power said.

All affected customers are encouraged to plan accordingly and check updates in case supply is restored ahead of schedule.
