Johannesburg Water Announces Major Maintenance, Meter Replacements and Temporary Supply Interruptions

Johannesburg Water has issued its daily water supply system status update for 1 December 2025, warning residents in several regions to expect scheduled interruptions as critical maintenance and infrastructure upgrades get under way.

Region B: Long-Term Reservoir Repairs Underway

Residents in Melville, Emmarentia, Richmond, Greenside, Westdene, Westcliff, Auckland Park and Parktown West will be affected by an extensive maintenance project that begins on 1 December 2025 at 07:00 and is expected to run until 9 April 2026 at 16:00.

All streets within these suburbs fall under the affected zone.

The interruption is due to structural repairs on a leaking reservoir, which will be placed on bypass for the duration of the work.

Johannesburg Water says customers will still receive water, as supply will be routed through bypass infrastructure. The utility emphasises that the long-term repairs will help improve service delivery, enhance supply continuity, and reduce water losses.

No alternative water supply is required for this project.

Region A: One-Day Shutdown for New Infrastructure Commissioning

Carlswald residents will face a full day without water on 3 December 2025, from 09:00 to 16:00, as Johannesburg Water commissions new infrastructure.

Affected areas include:
Carlswald Estate Ext.32, Ext.27, Ext.48, Carlswald A.H, Ext.14, Ext.42 and Ext.54.
All streets in these extensions fall within the planned shutdown.

Unlike Region B, this shutdown will result in no supply during the stated hours. Johannesburg Water has provided alternative water tankers stationed at key points, including:

  • Corner Seventh Road & Milford Road

  • Corner Eastbourne Road & Norfolk Road

  • Corner Guildford Road & Springfield Road

The upgrade is part of efforts to strengthen water security and improve long-term reliability in the fast-growing Carlswald area.

Rand Water Meter Replacement to Affect Orlando and Zuurfontein

In addition to Johannesburg Water’s local work, Rand Water will conduct planned replacements of mechanical meters with magnetic flow meters, impacting supply in parts of ZuurbeKom.
